| Anonymous | Sunday, December 10, 2000 - 10:30 am Morning Spin sees this from two angles: - Finally! A very weak, ineffective Prime Minister has woken up to realize that he has almost no support on the home front and is losing respect on the international level.
- Very sly maneuver on his part - by resigning instead of waiting for completely new elections in May, he is using the laws that require only an election for prime minister to take place, with those laws require his opponent to be a Knesset member. Netanyahu is not a Knesset member! This leaves Ariel Sharon as the likely candidate - someone who Barak may be able to defeat.
The main option for the Knesset at this point is to try to force a complete election of the Knesset and Prime Minister in 60 days, thus, allowing Netanyahu to enter the race and likely easily defeat Barak. |
