The Rams won on Sunday over the Vikings, and I guess that I should be thankful for that. I would have rather, of course, had both the Packers and Vikings win there, but what can you do? Well, you can onviously do nothing. The Gophers womens hockey team also won, 10-1, which is rather ironic, considering that; well, actually, it isn't so ironic. The fact is that they are the #1 team in the country, and they should slaughter every team that they play. The Gophers mens basketball team also won, 91-84 in OT, in a game that they should have easily won. Whatever, a win is a win is a win, a fact that must b e remembered by all Vikings fans. They might go 16-0 from here to eternity, but they still won't have won a Superbowl.
Well, i won't really write much now, because there is't much to write. I just read in the local Socialist paper about a guy who has 600,000 chrismas lights and pays 1,700 bucks for that privilege. That is just ridiculous. No one should be allowed to spend that kind of money on anything. Well, except a Mac.
And it's a depressed 200 too. The Wild just lost an eminently winnable game, the Wolves, though they haven't played, still stink, and of course I am still mourning our loss in Detroit. Well, I will write more later. Which means tommorow, of course.
Well, isn't Yitzy just the sweetest thing. Not only does he take the time to watch one of the worst Packers game in weeks, but then he drops a kind note to tell me how he's feeling. That kind of kindness is really appreciated by me. You know, Brett Favre has only thrown over 200 yards in five games this season, and he's lost all of those games. Today, he threw for his most yardage of the year, but Ahman Green stunk, as did Brett, and the Packers lost a game that they should have won. DuH! There are some games, of course, that I can forgive them for losing. The KC game comes to mind. But todays was just another example of why the glory days are over in Titletown. I'm betting on a 4-12 season for the next ten years, followed by a decade of 11-5 with one Superbowl win, and a great QB at the helm. Whatever. As they say, it's only a game, and who knows? The way the Vikings have looked the last 5 weeks, the Packers could still get into the playoffs with a 9-7 record. Why one more loss? Because this team will lose to Chicago. I mean, I hope not, but whatever.
Meanwile, in other sports news, the Wild and Wol;ves are all doing terribly. Too bad. Well, have a good night. I for sure probably won't for the Rabbi. Bye
Last night, I only got home at 2:30, so I didn't go online. Tonight, I got home considerably earlier, but that doesn't change the fact that i am still tired. Sorry. Hopefully, I will write about the Packers winning tomorow night.
meanwhile, Glenn doesn't even bother. by bye
The Packers won again, despite Brett Favre again being absolutely terrible. It didn't matter, though, because our defense was awesome. Meanwhile, the Vikings played in one of the wierder games that you will ever see, but eventually beat the Lions. Too bad. The Packers play the Lions on Thurday, which is just wonderful Football again in just 4 days? Yes! The Vikings announcers, right before the Detroit kicker was too try for a field-goal were jinxing him by praising to the sky. And, guess what? it worked! Therefore, I won't even think about the the Packers game coming up. Well, maybe a little but. Bye Bye
Well, not too much to report. I guess that I can write more tommorow, if you want. Well then, I wil bye bye
Today wasn't too interesting. The Wild lost, which really stinks, but whatever. It's only one game, right? Try telling that to the Atlanta Braves right after game 7 in 1991. They sure didn't believe it then. The Twins owners wife died. There has been a spate of these lately, which is unfortunate. More tommorow.
Well, I have some unfortunate news to tell you. A pitcher named Ken Brett, aged 55, died today from brain cancer. He was never a great, but he pitched for 13 seasons, for 10 different teams. That is really astounding. He even had a lifetime batting average of .262, which is very good for a pitcher.
Anyway, onto the fun news. With 38 seconds to go in the first period of the Wilds game versus Pittsburgh at 41 year-old Mellon Arena, Antii Laaksonen scored his second goal of the night. Then the power went out. It was rather disconserting, seeing as the players took their first intermission even before the period had ended. The officials allowed the players to come back out and finish the first, and then immediatly start the second period. I don't know if they had some sort of break in between, or whether they just had a whistle and a face-off back in the center. Either way, at the end of 2 periods, the Wild lead 4-0. Now, with 10 minutes to go, the Wild have a 3 goal lead. To bad Roloson couldn't get the shutout, but whatever. Good night
Glenn is once again in the news, as Apple Comp. introduced several new computers today, including a 20 Inch iMac and a dual processor G5 runnign at 1.8 GHZ each. The G5 also earned PC Magazines award for best desktop of the year. Wow! That's like Bill Gates speaking at a MacExpo. Oh wait, he did, in 1997. Sorry, that comparison didn't work. Ah, I got one, that's like the Vikings winning a superbowl. There we are, now you truly understand the signifigance of this. Bye Bye
Well, a nice bit of politicizing there, eh? Rush is back, and once again making big bucks. I mean I'm happy for the guy, but still, he better not be pander to any morons on the left now. Speaking of morons on the left, how about the Democrats now. It seems that they're entire campaign is now "beat Bush" Hopefully, it won't work, though knowing how we messed up the '92 election, I can easily see President Gephardt getting assasinated next November. Sorry, president elect. Hey, if the CIA is reading this, I know nothing. No really, I know absolutely nothing. I promise that. All I do know is that the Vikings are in epic fall mode, which is great for the Packers, a team in epic mediocrity mode. O h well, maybe we won't get to play at home in the first round. That way, it won't be so embarassing. Meanwhile, not too much else happened. The Bears almost won, and now I wish that they had. Too bad. well, have a good night, G. Mantle
The Packers won. 'Nuff said. The Vikings lost. Wow, is this a sweet day or what? Brett Favre won for the first time ever in raymond James Stadium, despite having a pretty bad game. Ahman Green had another great game, and I like our chances versus a struggling 49ers team that will be coming off a big matchup versus the Steelers on MNF. In other NFL stories, the Bengals shocked the previously unbeaten Chiefs, which is nice. The Texans also won, which is a cute story. The Lions play the Vikings next week. Normally, this would be a cinch for the Vikes, but the way they are playing, watch out for the Blue and silver Detroit squad. Hopefully, they can help the Packers with a win. Well, have a great night, G. Mantle
Wow, Glenn really did some research. He looked at all these football stats, and found alot of stuff. The way all the teams are playing, by the way, the winner of the division will be 9-7. I am not kidding either. The other three teams will all finish around there. Funny, but I though that football was supposed to be fun. Not when we stink, though. Take, for example, the Gophers today. They lost. Well, looks like I can't think about 'em for another six weeks. See, I have a policy that I don't think about any of my teams that are on losing streaks. That way, I don't get depressed. Now Glenn has problems with this, since he only follows the Packers. However, I follow several teams. more actually. Here goes. The Packers, Twins, Wild, Wolves, and whoever beats the Vikings. The Gophers, Badgers, Thunder, Saints, Brewers, Bucks, and sometimes other teams, if I'm really desperate, like the Colorado Rockies and even (gasp) the Tampa Bay Lightning. Oh well, tonight I can mourn another lost lead by the Wild and Gophers mens hockey, a cute win for the women, and a half-decent bowl game for Wisconsin. Yeah right, who am I kidding? Well, have a good night, I sure hope that I will.
Well, I ain't actually in Russia, or even East of the Kazak steppe, but that's alright, init? Good. Not too much here, though the world is showing a propensity toward self destruction. I will keep you updated on that, as well as the scary thought that somoene stole Ernie's little rubber ducky. How unfortunate, eh? Well, have a good college football saturday, NFL sunday, a little more football on Monday, a double dose of hockey on Tuesday, some hoops action on Wednesday, some spiking (volleyball) on Thursday, a little college hockey and high school football on Friday, and then wow! it's football again. nice.
Are you a panther? Well, I really don't want to know either way, I just felt like asking. I really don't feel like writing in any case, I just felt that I has an obligation to my viewers. What viewers? Good point. Well, bye bye
Last night was so horrible that I refused to write. It was truly one of those games where if your head-coach has any guts, he fires his defensive, offensive, and interntet coordinator. Seriously. I haven't been able to get onto packers.com for three months now. But aside from that, I refuse to talk about it. I will be happy if we go 8-8 this season. Yeah right, such wishful thinking. 6-10 is too good for the miserable piece of dirt which dare besmirch the good name of a once-proud organization, turning it into a pathetic and lifeless piece of the afforementioned dirt.
Anyway, the Wolves managed to blow an 8 point fourth-quarter lead, and so lost once again. Too bad. The Wild, at least, were victorious, beating the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 at Xcel. Well, have a good night. I probably won't :)
Well, the Vikinings lost for the third dtraight time, putting the Packers way back into contention. If they can beat a tough Eagles squad on MNF, then they'll not only be just a game behind the Vikes for top spot in the Northern division, but tied with two other teams for two wild-card berths. Hope they win. More later. I hope.
Good news first. The Gophers won. The bad news. Denny Hocking won't be back. Now, of you take a look at his numbers, you'll think "why, of course! he hit .250 with 3 homers and 22 ribbies!" Well, if you think like that, then you're missing the point. He has been with the team since 1993. He has helped them a lot. I think that it's unfortunate that the Twins won't let him help them win next season. Anyway, I just though I'd get that off my chest. How about a little politics. I heard today that the Dems were criticizing Bush for not focusing on domestic issues. Well, you morons, times are getting better, aren't they? Besides, Iraq needs his attention. It is amazing how Americas tolerance for pain has decreased so rapidly. In WWII, or even in Vietnam, the total number of Americans killed would be all in a days work. Now, I'm not saying that they don't matter, heaven forfend; I am just trying to make the point that when our service men and (got to be PC) women join, they know what they're getting into. And they would, I am sure, much rather have a country behind them that supports them, as opposed to the current one, where %99 of Dem's (%4.3 US Pop.) think that Bush, and to a lesser extent them, are the problem. Well, onto happier things. The Gophers once again almost blew a big lead, but thankfully won over Wisconsin to not only preserve their Big Ten title hopes, but more importantly, captured Paul Bunyans axe from the Badgers. There were two MN-WI games in less then a week in the dome, and they went 1-1. The Good way as far as I am concerned. Well, have a good night, Mr. G. Mantle
You know, it's enough to make a guy break into teras. Here I am, all alone at the computer screen, and someone, possible you, is reading this. I turned my head and nobody was reading over my shoulder. I really hate when they do that. anyway, I am really tired, so have a good night. Au Revoir
Just because Glenn was attending a show 'cause he couldn't unload the tickets is no excuse for his defending Ahman Green. Okay, okay, he actually went to the pro-bowl a couple of times. but dare I mention Kansas City. Visions of Superbowl I and the LA Colisseum will not float to Glenns head. Oh no, he was too young. I am actually referring to a OT loss a couple of weeks ago. And while we are on the subject of QBs, I fully agree. Favre has lost at least three games to my certain knowledge with his ill-advised throws. Sack him, and get an option QB. Oh wait, Daunte fumbles half his runs. Too bad. ANyway, the Wild defense is killing them, as is the Wolves. At least the NHL has the points system, so the Wild managed something at least in their last game. But the Wolves D looked downright undefensible. Well, I have ranted enough. Next week on MNF? Packers 37, Eagles 24. I hope.
Wel, the Packers actually win an important game, and Glenn doesn't even make a comment. Could it be? Is it possible? Is Glenn more interested in the Wild now? Wow, that is scary. The Wild, by the way, are scoreless with Colorado midway through the first period. More later. Maybe
How 'bout them Packers. Minnesota fans? And I repeat, Booyah. So much for 15-1, Eh? The Pack is not only back with a vengeance, but twe are going to start contending for the 6th seed in the playoffs. Yes! Now we can get bounced in the first round of the playoffs, but maybe this time it'll be on the road. Anyway, I am definitely not taking anything away from this amazing win. Too rack up almost 250 yards on the ground is absolutely amazing. Brett Favre? Did you mention a broken thumb? Right, I though that I misunderstood you. This win will cost the Vikings home field advantage, and consequently the superbowl. Ahman Green obviously cured his fumbleitis, and the Packs defense basically held the Vikings to 20 points. The Pack also had some nice 3rd down conversions. Also, I appreciated the fact that the officials let this game run, instead of calling a bunch of needless penalties. The officials did miss one call, though, on Ellings' first FG. It actually was wide left. But who really cares? We own, and that is all that counts. Well, have a good night, because I most certainly will Bye Bye
Liked the pun, huh? An, I am happy to announce that we have gained a new convert to hockey, here, appropriately enough, in the state of hockey. That's right. Semi-faithful reader Glenn went to the game on Thursday, courtesy of Northwest Airlines, and watched the Wild win. Nothing wrong with that, huh? The Wild have now won 3 in a row, which is pretty sweet. With Marian Goborik back on the team, we should finish with a solid spot in the playoffs, probably somewhere between 4-7. I don't have much hope in the usurping the Colorado Avalanche, who have won their division 10 times in a row, or something like that. Still though, in hockey and also in basketball, winning a division means nothing. Winning the championship means everything.
Meanwhile, the Wolves, one night after setting a franchise record with just 61 points, give up just 56 to the Raptor, and win. They are now 2-1, and even though it is obviously very early in the season, they should do pretty well.
The Gophers also had a good day, winning mens football 55-7 over Indiana, as well as a swimming meet with northwestern pretty handily. On the womens side, they won in hockey and volleyball. Have a good night, now.
